At the development stage, this person will work across departments to develop award criteria, messaging and mission statement. At the nomination stage, this person will work with the editorial and events groups to develop a program timeline, set deadlines, help to design and oversee the submission process and work across departments to identify key targets and future prospects.  At the processing and judging stage, this person handle all logistics for internal and external judging committees, sort and file all pertinent information for the judging process, research companies and individuals in the candidate pool, as well as important information related to judging criteria.  The person will oversee decision making process, handle outward and inward communication on all aspects of the award process and organization, as well as be on site and develop the run of show and assist on-site with live event operation. 

This position requires previous experience in organizing and operating events.  Position also requires attention to detail, superior organizational skills and ability to work across departments.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Leadership – Must be efficient and effective at project management. Must have the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.  Must be able to work across various departments and effectively communicate program goals.
  • Communication – Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  This includes excellent ability to communicate both inside and outside the organization.
  • Deadlines – Must have the ability to consistently meet and adhere to all deadlines and commitments, both internal and external.
  • Organization – Must be comfortable managing a complex projects coordinating various departments, manage multiple deadlines and keep track of large volumes of information.

 

DUTIES:

  • Award Program Development: Develop and implement plans to conceive, execute and complete various annual award programs with Publisher. Position will work very specifically on the major awards – New Voices, Game Changers, Forty Under 40, Sports Business Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award and Champions.   Position will work across department to develop awards mission and calendar.  Work across departments to develop nomination criteria, roll out submission process, track and compile nominations, set up judging committee meetings and be the liaison to the outside world.
  • Goals and Timelines: Work across departments to establish clear event goals, timelines, calendar and deadlines.  Have various goals for print, digital and live event execution.
  • Awards Organization and Execution: Position will work with SBJ’s conference group to organize planning and execution of events. Position will also work closely with production group to handle on-site programming, production and presentation. During the entire awards process, position will be point of contact on personal, event and programming information. Will take the lead in gathering data, files and video/photos for all event production and compile any material needed for outside consumption.
  • Marketing: Work with sales, marketing and events team to develop and implement marketing plans around Awards programs. This includes items such as social media, house ads, email campaigns and other forms of messaging. Position will work with web development and email marketing team to build website and raise awareness of event and nominations for the programs.
  • Communication: Keep entire department informed of any items relating to Awards program such as deadline changes, announcements, next steps, etc.  Awards Director will communicate with event sponsors, judges, presenters and award winners and anyone associated with event.
  • Travel:  Travel required – as position will be on-site for each of these events.
  • Computer Skills:  Must be proficient in computer programs (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, social media platforms including LinkedIn) and/or willing to learn new programs.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education – A 4-year college degree or equivalent.
  • Experience – Experience in events – event management or operation; strong writing skills and superior organizational skills.

 

OTHER:

  • Awards Program Coordinator should be prepared to take on any other assignment requested by the Publisher.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • None

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

General office environment.  Extensive computer use required. Some travel required.  Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.
